South Park is being downsized! Each new season going forward will contain 10 consecutive episodes as opposed to 14 with half in the fall, half in the spring. This will begin in September 25 which means the 17th season will not kick off within a few months’ time as initially expected. All this was revealed in a New York Times piece during which the series’ creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker seemed very upfront about their desire to see the series continue for a long time.
They also debunked any rumors that this may be related to television ratings as they “sort of don’t really care about ratings.” It is more so because Matt and Trey wanting to concentrate on doing different things out of their newly-formed production company, Important Studios. One of the first projects the duo are expected to tackle under the banner is The Book of Mormon movie based on the incredibly popular Broadway musical which they created. We anxiously await confirmation on that, but considering they are still making money hand over fist on the stage production they could always decide to wait a little longer.
