A Many Splintered Thing director Justin Reardon has just tapped three big names to headline his next comedy. The press release has the plot details after the jump, but the cliffies are that the film is called Convention and it will star Jennifer Aniston alongside Mark Duplass as siblings trying to sell the world on the five-sided box with Ben Kingsley playing a box magnate. Mark Duplass is coming off of Zero Dark Thirty and Safety Not Guaranteed while Kingsley is the big fish as it is said he steals the show in the upcoming third Iron Man movie. He will also presumably be sustaining the momentum with the release of Ender’s Game late in the year in which he has a supporting role.
Pulling off a red hot casting coup with Jennifer Aniston, Mark Duplass and Ben Kingsley attached, Justin Reardon’s next feature film is the wild and hilarious comedy CONVENTION that is set to shoot this summer with K5 International bringing the project to the European Film Market in Berlin this week.
Aniston (Just Go With It, Marley & Me), Duplass (Safety Not Guaranteed, Zero Dark Thirty) and Kingsley (Iron Man 3, Enders Game) are set to star in this mind-bending comedy, embarking on a Kaufman-esque journey that puts them between the worlds of the cardboard box industry and inter-dimensional molecular mayhem. Justin Reardon has just finished production on his directorial debut A MANY SPLINTERED THING starring Chris Evans and Michelle Monaghan.
CONVENTION finds mild-mannered Paul (Duplass) and his feisty sister Abby (Aniston) setting out to change the box storage world with Paul’s invention of the 5-sided box. Breaking all the laws of physics with their new product, their fiercest competitors including maniacal box magnate Bobby Schroedinger (Kingsley) and Mathematical Construct, an atomic guardian of the natural order of universal mathematical balance, endeavour to stop them securing the deal of their lives – oh, and ripping a giant apocalyptic whole in the fabric of the universe. On discovering the damage he’s causing, Paul must race against time to put the galaxy back in order and save the girl of his dreams.
K5 Partners Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur say – “We have an absolute dream cast for this dream comedy concept. It brings to mind films like Being John Malkovich, and Eternal Sunshine, and in Justin Reardon we have a wildly talented and totally visionary director.”
Paul Schiff says – “CONVENTION is a wildly original and funny screenplay. Justin Reardon’s approach to the material is bold, inventive and bursting with imagination. And finally, we could not be more thrilled to have such a gifted group of actors on board to bring this film to life.”
Carl Clifton, K5 Partner – Sales & Marketing adds “This is the most original and funniest script for at least a decade. The marketplace lives and breathes for projects like this. It’s totally unique and yet, at its heart, simpleand extremely marketable and with a cast to die for.”
The deal was negotiated by Daniel Baur on behalf of K5 International and Lawrence Kopeikin, Paul Schiff and Tai Duncan on behalf of Paul Schiff Productions. CAA and ICM Partners co-represent North America.
Written by Christopher Painter (The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius) and produced by Paul Schiff (Rushmore, Mona Lisa Smile) and Tai Duncan (Tenure, The Air I Breathe) of Schiff Productions Productions, the film is directed by Reardon, hotly regarded as one of today’s most innovative commercials maker including work for Budweiser (Wassup! and Howyadoin!).
