After a million views and counting, Jim Carrey has caused quite the stir with his latest Funny or Die-produced video. The footage has the comic actor putting on his best Charlton Heston impression for an adaptation of Cold Dead Hand. While the piece has received more praise than not, it is worth mentioning that many people are upset over his jumping into this hot-button issue.
Carrey has long been an advocate for gun control (anyone who follows him on Twitter knows this,) so the real question has to be whether the issue is simply his career. In recent years, he has been seen as a non-factor, and his addition to the cast of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone did nothing for box office sales earlier this month. Maybe people are more disappointing that he is a shadow of what he once was or even worst, a continued talent wasted on Mr. Popper’s Penguins and a PG-13 comedy starring Steve Carell.
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is now playing in theaters nationwide.
