Just when you thought we were done with the supremely low-rated singing competition series The Sing-Off, NBC has decided to bring it back. THR has confirmed what casting announcements have alluded to in that the unscripted program will be back on the air relatively soon. For those who forgot, this was a Nick Lachey-hosted show that featured Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman, and Sara Bareilles on the judges’ panel. What made this one unique was its focus on a capella. Obviously, the Peacock has dreamed up a way to bring the program back with higher ratings, so hopefully get some details on that sooner rather than later.
This follows news in December that NBC was hiring Lachey to host a new singing series tentatively titled The Winner Is… That particular program had an emphasis on dueling so they could have conceivably re-branded that original show into the more-recognized favorite. It is hard to imagine they would do this, but then again NBC is a desperate network whose only hit at the moment seems to be The Voice.
