By Jeff Rosz | May 17th, 2013 The press is still going early for the release of Grown Ups 2. Adam Sandler took to The Tonight Show Thursday night to promote the comedy which does not release for another two months. The actor brought his typical shtick, but he also took a swipe at NBC’s ousting of Jay after all these years by suggesting he might end up at Fox. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | May 7th, 2013 A Grown Ups 2 poster hit the web today, advertising the sequel’s July 2013 release. Despite a lot of disdain for the feature’s predecessor, there seems to be a lot of love for this one going into release. I will keep you posted on the expectations, but it is still hard to imagine another $200 million global gross even if it is Adam Sandler & Co.

By Jeff Rosz | April 24th, 2013 Remember Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore’s reunion film that broke earlier this spring? Well, today there is an update on the project as a release date has been set by Warner Bros. The Frank Coraci-directed comedy starring the two and, as most-recently announced, Joel McHale will be hitting theaters on Memorial Day Weekend of next year, May 23 to be exact. The project will leave an alternative to Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes on a weekend that is expected to now be big enough to support two blockbusters.
A bigger story though might be regarding a film that most have never heard of as the studio is also set to distribute Transcendence from Dark Knight cinematographer Wally Pfister. The sci-fi project stars Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman and was originally set for an April 25 bow–giving it only one week to play with before Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes out. Now, it is will roll out a week earlier on April 18, two weeks after Disney’s release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It has been talked about for a while now, but it would appear the summer box office season starts well before May next year as even March has some stacked releases.
By Jeff Rosz | April 17th, 2013 Because Ellen airs repeats in the summer, it is was worth the Sandman’s efforts to take to the daytime talk show before the end of the season to promote his new movie. The comedy is called Grown Ups and it will not be out for another three months. Nonetheless, this is a brand that is very good to him as the original made over $200 million in 2010. You can tell his expectations from who he brought along with him to the interview, fellow cast members Salma Hayek, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph, and David Spade. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | April 9th, 2013 The Sand Man’s back on Conan as the comic actor is already ramping up early promotion for the sequel to Grown Ups. Last week saw the official trailer debut for the feature which will seek to recapture the same elements that netted the franchise one of Happy Madison’s highest grosses to date. Here it is, Adam Sandler on Conan for no particular reason other than a film releasing three months from now. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | April 3rd, 2013 Just three years ago, Grown Ups entered theaters to scathing reviews, but for whatever reason (possibly its ensemble) the pic went on to become one of Adam Sandler’s highest-grossing films ever. It did not take long for talks of a sequel to surface, thus where we stand today: looking right into the barrel of a comic disaster that will inevitably make a lot of money this summer. That said, here is the world premiere trailer for Grown Ups 2. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | March 12th, 2013 In some late breaking news Tuesday evening, it has been confirmed that Drew Barrymore will indeed be pairing up with Adam Sandler for their third joint effort as originally reported three weeks ago. The film does not have a title right now, but it does have a plot as the project (set up at Warner Bros.) will follow a man and a woman trapped on a family resort with their kids after a disastrous first date. Alas, a Brady Bunch origin story.
The duo are pretty potent as their second starring vehicle together 50 First Dates found nearly $200 million worldwide back in 2004. Before that, it was The Wedding Singer in 1998 which banked $123 million on a much smaller budget. It is a shame Sony gave up on the Sand Man because whatever this turns into, chances are it will make Warner Bros. a mountain of money.
By Jeff Rosz | February 21st, 2013 There is quite a bit of high profile casting news tonight, so let’s get to it. The biggest story that will most likely dominate the tabloid media in the next few days is that Michael Bay has forgiven those ‘he’s like a Nazi’ comments that Megan Fox said in regards to their working together on Transformers. The director has cast the actress in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action/CGI reboot that he’s producing as news reporter April O’Neal. The movie is dropping in May 2014, so expect a lot of info to land on that project very soon as shooting begins.
Next up is word that Adam Sandler’s Western comedy will not go head-to-head with the one from Seth MacFarlane next year. Paramount apparently thought better of it so they are backing the project up as the Sandman takes a role for Warner Bros. He will be leading another rom com and this one is a big deal because it might trigger a Drew Barrymore reunion. Should the actress sign onto this untitled project, this would be the third movie the two have done together. The previous efforts are The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates for those of you keeping track.
Our last bit of news, and probably the least sexy, is that James Marsden has joined the cast of Anchorman 2 which is ramping up production as we speak. Details are scarce, but he is expected to play a rival of Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgandy. That could mean another gauntlet-like scene (similar to the one from the original movie); however, let’s be honest and say they would not announce a hefty casting call unless Marsden’s role was beyond cameo status. Anchorman 2 releases in theaters this December.
By Jeff Rosz | January 8th, 2013 One of the big films this summer will presumably be Adam Sandler’s next comedy, a sequel to Grown Ups with the entire cast coming back for more. This first one found $271 million worldwide back in 2010, making it one of the Sand Man’s most profitable features yet although it must be said there are concerns about the actor’s career going forward as his last two efforts each underperformed. That is not why we are talking about his next feature though, as it is done more so to merely present the latest advance photo from the movie with many of its stars. Continue Reading
