Emily Blunt Tapped to Join Tom Cruise in a Sci-Fi War Film

In case you have not heard by now, Tom Cruise’s status as big time box office draw has been restored with the success of Mission: Impossible 4, and with that comes an onslaught of major Hollywood projects with his name attached.  The actor’s latest film to enter the pre-production stages is called All You Need to Kill–a movie based on the Hiroshi Sakurazaka graphic novel that goes by the same name.  Directing will be Doug Liman whose previous works include The Bourne Identity and Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

The premise of this particular feature puts Tom Cruise in a Groundhog Day-like scenario where he relives his last day over and over again; however, there is a catch that makes this one a legitimate blockbuster offering.  His last day has him fighting off aliens.  Who would have thought?

Now, the reason this movie is getting extra special attention today is the news that Emily Blunt is now in negotiations to fight right alongside Mr. Cruise.  This could easily be one of the actress’ biggest roles of her career as she tends to star in films that qualify in the category of ‘$100 million or less.’  With that being said, Blunt has starred in many notable films including Adjustment Bureau just last year as well as The Devil Wear Prada in which she had a supporting role.  Most recently though, she was in a little known film called Salmon Fishing in the Yemen alongside Ewan McGregor with her follow-up to that coming later this month in the form of Nicholas Stoller’s The Five-Year Engagement with Jason Segel.

Tom Cruise Could Join ‘All You Need to Kill’

Circulating the net today is word that Tom Cruise has lined up yet another movie to shoot in a post-Mission: Impossible 4 world.  In addition to Oblivion, he will most likely end up starring in All You Need to Kill which is a graphic novel written by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

The Doug Liman-directed effort is a sci-fi feature set against the backdrop of an alien war where Cruise’s character relives his last day over and over again.  The last time we saw a Groundhog Day-like plot similar to this was in Source Code which starred Jake Gyllenhaal, but seeing how this one has an alien war attached to it rather than terrorism, it has been elevated enough to lure in Tom Cruise.
