By Jeff Rosz | September 14th, 2012 Just last month, something very important in the movie industry happened and while it has yet be validated as a ‘game changer’ for smaller theatrical releases, it is certainly enough to grab attention from onlookers. Of course, this is referring to the surprise success of the fem-skewing, R-rated comedy Bachelorette from Terriers scribe Leslye Headland upon its direct-to-iTunes release. While it certainly helped that the cast included Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, and the surprisingly entertaining Rebel Wilson, Headland’s vision at the helm insured that effort was far more than just a Bridesmaids clone. By Jeff Rosz | September 12th, 2012 James Marsden is not exactly a household name, but he has been in a lot of recognizable stuff and he aims to continue that trend the next couple of years through roles in the multi-president drama The Butler and an action flick called 2 Guns opposite Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington. Naturally, when the actor was on Conan last night to promote the limited release of Bachelorette those two future projects were the leading topics of conversation. That said, take the look if you are interested in hearing Marsden discuss playing John F. Kennedy and hanging in his ‘Disney prince’ hat for an actioner. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | September 7th, 2012 Parks & Recreation is set to come back for its fifth season later this month, but that was not what drove Adam Scott to Jimmy Kimmel Live last night. The actor was instead promoting the select theater release of Bachelorette which is an R-rated comedy that has seen unprecedented success among direct-to-iTunes releases. He also talked about almost meeting the president and political guest stars on the upcoming season of his NBC comedy. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | September 5th, 2012 Kirsten Dunst has a new movie out called Bachelorette which she made with Lizzy Caplan, Isla Fisher, and Rebel Wilson for the low, low price of $3 million. The R-rated comedy from director Leslye Headland turned out to be a huge iTunes hit, so the cast has been making the rounds to promote the film’s select theater debut. Fast forward to last night where Dunst took to Jimmy Fallon to plug the success story. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | August 29th, 2012 Not a whole lot of people are familiar with Isla Fisher, but that’s okay. All you need to know about her is that she played Vince Vaughn’s love interest in Wedding Crashers (the accent might throw you) and that she is married to Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, The Dictator.) Oh, and she also has some pretty good interview stories.
The actress took to Conan last night to promote her new iTunes-film release Bachelorette which is an R-rated comedy that casts her alongside Kirsten Dunst, Rebel Wilson, and Lizzy Caplan. This feature has been pretty well received which is probably why you are seeing the group invade late night talk to promote its limited theatrical release which is due in September. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | August 24th, 2012 Kirsten Dunst is out promoting her new R-rated comedy Bachelorette. Despite being a direct-to-iTunes release, the movie made waves when it was released earlier in the month, becoming the first non-theatrical debut to top the iTunes charts. Perhaps it has something to do with its excellent cast which includes Lizzy Caplan, Isla Fisher, Rebel Wilson, James Marsden, and Adam Scott.
Last night, Dunst took to The Tonight Show where she talked about living with her family and promoted the feature’s limited theater debut which is set for early September. The Spider-Man actress also dished on going to a strip club for the film. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | August 14th, 2012 We may not be to the point where we need to check out the week-to-week iTunes releases, but making a whole lot of noise this week is the R-rated release of Bachelorette from Terriers scribe Leslye Headland. In addition to being a well-received directorial debut for Headland, the movie has scaled to number one on the iTunes charts upon its rare direct-to-Apple release. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | August 2nd, 2012 The first red-band trailer has just landed for the R-rated bridal comedy Bachelorette. The film may be an on-demand release with a limited theatrical bow, but this certainly looks to be a bit more than your typical Bridesmaids knockoff. Starring Kristen Dunst, Isla Fisher, and Lizzy Caplan, the film is about three girls asked to be bridesmaids for the woman they used to ridicule in high school.
If that is not enough to sell you on it, producing Leslye Headland’s directorial debut is Adam McKay and Will Ferrell. Who knows if they just financed it for the credit or actually worked on the project to some degree, but the fact they are attaching their names to it should go a long way with a whole chunk of people. By Jeff Rosz | July 20th, 2012 The first trailer has just been released for Bachelorette starring Kristen Dunst, Isla Fisher, and Lizzy Caplan. Many of you are going to look at this and assume Bridesmaids knockoff right off the bat, but there is a unique twist to the plot that makes things a little different. Essentially, the film follows three girls asked to be bridesmaids for the woman they used to ridicule in high school.
Whether that is enough to make up for the significant lack of Kristen Wiig, it probably will not matter. Not a whole lot is expected from the directorial debut of Terriers writer Leslye Headland as the comedy is poised to land on iTunes on August 10th before the September 7th theatrical debut. That said, hit the jump to check this film out. Continue Reading
