By Jeff Rosz | March 6th, 2013 Where is the love for Dead Man Down?! Alright, let’s be honest and say that most of the movie-going world cares much more about Friday’s “other” nationwide release Oz the Great and Powerful, but the new red-band trailer just released for the Colin Farrell-starrer says “hey, that’s a kids movie. Here is your alternative”–a great marketing strategy that I would support 100%. It also does not hurt that the revenge thriller also stars Prometheus actress Noomi Rapace and Terrence Howard. By Jeff Rosz | March 6th, 2013 Colin Farrell is still doing press for this week’s release Dead Man Down, and last night that actor showed up on Conan to talk about the film. This feature is your classic revenge thriller that is mostly known to the entertainment press as ‘that movie that reunites Noomi Rapace with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev. This is a lot more than that though as it also is a film that has Terrence Howard being Terrence Howard in a supporting role. Hit the jump for Farrell’s latest talk show appearance. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | February 27th, 2013 Last night we saw Colin Farrell on The Tonight Show explaining his bizarre hairstyle, and today audiences got to hear a little bit more on the project that he did it for: Winter’s Tale. This is a period project from Akiva Goldsman with Will Smith, Russell Crowe, and other notables that is currently filming. The effort has the Fright Night actor riding a horse which was a major topic of conversation when he stopped by Ellen. Watch for Farrell’s ridiculous hair, stay for the sexual innuendos. He was on the program to promote Dead Man Down which releases in theaters next week. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | February 27th, 2013 Colin Farrell is out promoting his next film entitled Dead Man Down. This is the actor’s first film since Seven Psychopaths and the much higher profile Total Recall reboot, so there is a little bit of attention on this one. Overall, not much is expected from this thriller which casts Farrell opposite Noomi Rapace and Terrence Howard as it releases alongside Oz the Great and Powerful in less than two weeks.
As for the hairstyle, that is all for a new movie directed by Akiva Goldsman called Winter’s Tale based on a period fantasy novel by Mark Helprin. The pic also stars Will Smith, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Matt Bomer, and William Hurt. It is a shame he did not say more on the topic other than give it a slight nod because this is the movie we care about. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | February 4th, 2013 Another day, another movie added to Colin Farrell’s busy schedule. Today’s headline has the Total Recall actor joining the serial killer thriller Solace alongside Anthony Hopkins. The role will be that of the principal antagonist. Hopkins, who is coming off of portraying the title character in Hitchcock, has been tasked with playing the doctor who will inevitably put an end to the spree. Directing will be Two Rabbits’ Afonso Poyart from a script by Sean Bailey, Ted Griffin, James Vanderbilt and Peter Morgan. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | January 30th, 2013 Hot off back-to-back hits at the box office in the form of Zero Dark Thirty and Mama, Jessica Chastain has added a new project to her upcoming slate in the form of Miss Julie. The Oscar-nominee will be paired with Colin Farrell for the big screen adaptation from director Liv Ullmann.
For those unfamiliar with the August Strindberg-written play, the 1874-set story traces a woman’s escape from social mores as she is ‘suddenly drawn to a senior servant.’ Variety, who broke the story, reminds us of Chastain’s Broadway credentials as the Julliard alumna is currently starring in The Heiress all while in the running for an Academy Award for her work in Zero Dark Thirty.
As far as the selection of Colin Farrell for the co-star, that is probably what will befuddle most of those who follow the trades. The actor is still in the midst of a little career resurgence artificially ballooned prior to the flop that was Total Recall last year. He has kept pretty busy, but Farrell continues to be an unreliable draw at the box office. It is hard to imagine Chastain will not pull him to a new level, but then again Al Pacino failed to do so in 2002′s The Recruit.
By Jeff Rosz | January 9th, 2013 We just received our first look at the trailer for Niels Arden Oplev’s Dead Man Down with the Christmas Day offerings from Hollywood, and there has not been a whole lot to digest on this movie since other than the director has entrusted his English-langugage debut with Colin Farrell of all people. That is not to say that he is garbage when it comes to a leading man, but more so to acknowledge that he stars in flops more often than he does hits which is always a big red flag.
Having said that, we are still optimistic because that probably is not entirely his fault. He was great in Seven Psychopaths, In Bruges, and the far more noteworthy Horrible Bosses where he brilliantly played a balding, coke-snorting jerk much to our amusement. While his next pic is far from the comedy genre where the actor shines the most, he will be playing a crime boss’ right-hand man who becomes a hired gun for Noomi Rapace who we last saw abort her alien fetus in Prometheus. How can this go wrong? There are lots of ways, but the trailer was rather brilliant and so is Mr. Oplev thus our engaged enthusiasm about what Dead Man Down could ultimately deliver. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | January 2nd, 2013 It has been pretty sour year for Colin Farrell’s box office prowess. The actor had two films in 2012 between the disappointing (debatable) remake of Total Recall and the low-budget flop Seven Psychopaths. While the latter received critical praise as it featured a reunion of the star with In Bruges helmer Martin McDonagh, the pic finished a year of loss for anyone who backed the man who has received countless opportunities over the years. Nonetheless, he has a new thriller coming out from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director (the earlier, foreign language version) Niels Arden Opev that has us interested enough to give its trailer a look. The first promo features Prometheus actress Noomi Rapace enlisting Farrell’s killer talents to exact her revenge. Hit the jump for the view.

By Jeff Rosz | October 6th, 2012 Colin Farrell is back on the talk show circuit following the abysmal domestic performance of Total Recall. Back in indie mode, the actor is promoting a comedy he re-teamed with director Martin McDonagh for which has the actor alongside fellow industry veterans Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken in a comedy called Seven Psychopaths. In this movie, the actor plays a third party caught in the middle of his dog-napping friends and a gangster played by Woody Harrelson.
First up for Farrell were appearances on The Tonight Show and Ellen. Here is the video from both with only partial footage from the latter as that interview will air in its entirety on Monday’s program. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | August 30th, 2012 Earlier this month, audiences got their first look at Martin McDonagh’s reunion piece with In Bruges actor Colin Farrell. Seeing how the film is an R-rated comedy, the red-band trailer should shed some light on what is expected here and it certainly does play a lot funnier. There is a little less Farrell being shown and more Woody Harrelson which might be a good move considering the Total Recall star is not exactly a big box office draw.
Just to recap the plot, Farrell’s character is friends with two pet-nappers who stole from the wrong person. Needless to say, he gets wrapped up in their escapades which pits Farrell, Christopher Walken, and Sam Rockwell against a vengeful Harrelson. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | August 14th, 2012 The trailer is now out for Colin Farrell’s reunion with In Bruges director Martin McDonagh. Dubbed Seven Pyschopaths, the movie centers on a struggling screenwriter (Farrell) that gets caught up in LA’s criminal underworld following his friend’s kidnapping of a gangster’s Shih Tzu. While seemingly benign, many are certain to be excited for this comedy because of how impressive the director’s previous outing was in that he managed to find situational comedy under unnerving circumstances so effortlessly. By Jeff Rosz | August 2nd, 2012 Moviefone’s Unscripted series had the benefit of having three of the four stars from Len Wiseman’s Total Recall reboot on this week. The trio composed of Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Biel answered fan questions in regards to a whole bunch of useless junk that has nothing to do with the movie; however, a few of the topics did bring up the big budget blockbuster so there is that. Even if you do not intend on seeing the film, this video might supply some mild entertainment especially when they discuss Farrell’s method acting. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | August 2nd, 2012 The early reviews for Total Recall are trickling out as Sony’s embargo has been lifted. We all kind of knew that the movie was not up to snuff because critics were silenced until about a day before the film’s release, but this is very disappointing to say the least. Rotten Tomatoes currently has the movie at 18% after 22 reviews. While this is still less than the 30-or-so it takes to solidify a rating, the number is south enough to throw in the towel and call this one as a classic stinker.
The problems being mentioned though do not sound too bad for those of you who really just want to see an action movie. Chief complaints are centered on the assertion that there is too much happening. Yes, you heard that right. Too much. It may sound ridiculous, but the problem with that is that there is not enough character development for the audience to actually care about what happens to the film’s stars. By one critic’s estimates, the film is 75% Colin Farrell running or jumping. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | July 31st, 2012 Later this week, Len Wiseman’s Total Recall reboot will hit theaters nationwide with some pretty spectacular special effects. The guy behind the cheaply produced Underworld franchise and Live Free or Die Hard did a lot with a little on his previous efforts which is making a lot of us wonder just how much dough Sony threw at the Colin Farrell-led effort. By Jeff Rosz | July 31st, 2012 Out promoting Total Recall, Colin Farrell was on Conan last night. The actor has been around the talk circuit these past two weeks to get the word out for the Len Wiseman-directed reboot. Hollywood expects the movie to flop, but the reviews are not even out yet so really Friday’s performance will be a mystery. In other words, it is a good thing the movie’s stars (Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale included) have all put in time to get the word out about the $125 million film.
Topics of conversation included Irish folk dancing and the actor’s new film in which he kissed the director’s wife. Total Recall releases into theaters nationwide on August 3. Continue Reading
