Here is yet another Dexter trailer in promotion of the series’ early return set for the end of June. It is more of what we have already seen, but still nothing a die-hard Dexter fan would want to ignore. Take a look. Continue Reading
In regards to the run-up to the final season of Dexter, a lot of the questions have been around what Michael C. Hall (a long-time vet of the small screen) would do next. Many thought a feature career could be a natural progression for the Golden Globe-winner; however, we have seen many stars migrate the other way to serialized programming in recent years. Hall went as far as to say he was open to anything, even a return to leading man status on a television program as he nodded to the ‘interesting things’ happening on the medium at this time.
Well, today’s news from THR says the Dexter player has signed on to executive produce a new Showtime drama based on author Matthew Specktor’s American Dream Machine. The show will be about 1970s Hollywood and will move back and forth to modern times. While Hall is not signed on to star in the program (at least not yet,) this illustrates his comments are to be taken seriously about his fondness for the television drama.
Scott Buck, a Dexter showrunner, is said to be supervising the script which tells the story of a talent agent and his troubled sons. My concern here is the father-son dynamic which is obviously at the center of this and so is its West Coast backdrop. Showtime already has a series like that coming out this summer, ironically paired with Dexter called Ray Donovan from the outside of the business. The title character, played by Liev Schreiber, is a fixer for the LA elite which includes Hollywood players. A major pillar to that particular series is his relationship with his criminal father (Jon Voight.)
Dexter is coming to an end with its final season to premiere in late June, and that means more and more promo materials are beginning to surface. Take a look at one of the good ones to hit the web as it stars Michael C. Hall and all his in-character excuses. Be sure to tune in for the series’ early return on Sunday, June 30.
Check out the latest two teaser promos for the upcoming eighth season of Dexter. These are some more snapshot laden commercials than what we are used to, but a few of us should find them cool. One is for series lead Michael C. Hall who plays the title role with the other going to Jennifer Carpenter’s Debra Morgan. For those looking for a more appropriate promo, go ahead and check this out. It is simply run of the mill footage spliced into a 30-second spot. Continue Reading
Check out the latest teaser for the eighth season of Dexter. Unlike the last one, this is purely some old footage built to showcase a building tension towards the eighth and final run of the Showtime drama. It all begins June 30.
With the promos now running for the final season of Dexter, it is time to talk spin-offs for the Miami-based serial killer drama. When it was first announced two years ago that the show was ending its run in a few years, it was hard to imagine Showtime would give up their top-rated drama without a fight. Homeland changed that as it inevitably grew every bit as potent as its Michael C. Hall-led series and then some, opening the door to the possibility that Dexter’s premium network home would let it exit without too much extracurricular fanfare.
That hardly appears to be the case as now come rumblings that a sidebar series could be in the works with any number of characters from the widely-watched program–at least network execs will not rule it out. The problem with such a gimmick is the lack of the property’s trademark allure and that leads us to believe that any expectations could live in spoiler territory. There is not much news to go off of, but there was word a few weeks ago that Chuck actress Yvonne Strahovski would be returning to the show in a rare recurrence for a guest character. Perhaps she could take up Dexter’s dark passenger in a different light, carrying it beyond Miami as she escapes from almost certain lifelong imprisonment. Maybe Dexter is caught and confesses to her crimes as the series-ender promises closure.
The other options lay with Angel, Masuka, or Debra Morgan which are almost certainly all bad choices. There really is not much to latch onto at this point in time without thinking of a spin-off in tone. Would the network be comfortable with a similar-minded series set in another major market with all-new characters? Dexter’s trip to the country to chase a target a while back was not exactly embraced by viewers. Hopefully, more will come to light in the coming months when Dexter starts its eighth season run on Sunday, June 30.
Just two days ago, Showtime revealed the first sneak peek for the upcoming eighth season of Dexter. Billed as the show’s final run, you can expected the premium network to launch a pretty healthy marketing campaign to snag up viewers. This is not just about getting fans of the show to watch Dexter in the summer, but also to help attract viewers to the channel’s new show Ray Donovan, thus giving subscribers a reason to stay with Showtime after it loses its top drama. It took a while, but now we have official confirmation that the eighth season of Dexter will be its last as Showtime released a brand new sneak peek today, promoting the occasion. As one could tell, Debra Morgan is taking to the bottle following her choice of LaGuerta over her brother. This is something we heard these past few months although this is the first time we can visually piece together how well this will play going forward. Continue Reading
For fans wanting their first glimpse of Dexter season 8, you will have to sit through scenes of a show you know next to nothing about. Sorry, but Showtime is really leveraging their top drama’s fanbase in order to pump up Ray Donovan. On the bright side, the show stars Liev Schreiber as a ‘fixer’ in LA, and it might just turn into the next great summer program although all the footage they show today has already been seen dozens of times already. We are creeping up on the finale season of Showtime’s Dexter, and it certainly shows in the latest teaser trailer (mostly a Michael C. Hall-supplied voice-over) for the program’s eighth season. Showtime is yet to confirm if they will break the series’ final run into two sets of episodes (as is the fashion,) but nonetheless fans can expect things to wrap up starting this summer. For those of you curious why they moved the show up, that is to support Liev Schreiber’s new drama Ray Donovan which also lands in three months’ time.
The last viewers left off, Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) was forced to choose between her brother Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and Captain LaGuerta (Lauren Velez,) and it did not end too well for the latter as one would suspect. Interestingly enough, the first teaser for the next season of Dexter hit the web, giving this moment the recognition it deserves by adding her name to a list of victims. Continue on for the view with the obvious disclaimer that no new footage has arrived just yet. The program is still in the midst of production to the best of our knowledge as casting news continues to surface. Continue Reading
Kind of a shocker today coming out from Showtime. The network is going to premiere the eighth and probably final season of Dexter three months earlier than originally anticipated so the high-rated drama can lead in a new show starring Liev Schreiber called Ray Donovan. Fans can now look forward to seeing the next new episode of the channel’s top program on June 30 as opposed to the usual late September return date.
Showtime Entertainment President David Nevins spoke on the series’ end and unfortunately it sounds very Breaking Bad-ish. We are getting the sense that the network could super-size the season and split it into two, but that is mere speculation at this time. Continue Reading
As one might expect, this weekend’s season finale episodes of Homeland and Dexter each rode even higher to establish new series highs. The programs garnered 2.3 and 2.75 million viewers respectively, giving the premium network yet another night of cable ratings dominance. The big question mark will clearly be whether both can continue their momentum going forward into next fall where they will be paired again. Fall 2013 will mark Dexter’s final season on the air and Homeland’s third. [Note: Homeland's 10 pm showing fell short of last week's, but overall viewership with the night's replay won out 2.7 million versus 2.6 million.] Continue Reading
Golden Globe-winning actor Michael C. Hall took to Conan last night ahead of his hit serial killer drama’s seventh season finale. This is the second to last season for the show which means Hall will need to find another recurring gig. He has been a resident of premium television since 2001 starting with a role on HBO Six Feet Under. Perhaps yet another television series is in his future as for the most part his big screen attempts have been relatively unsuccessful. Continue Reading
A week after Homeland usurped Dexter for Showtime’s most-watched program, the serial killer drama took the position right back. Minus the scripted competition from shows like The Walking Dead and Boardwalk Empire which both ended their fall runs last week, Showtime’s 1-2 punch thrived as they each found new series bests. Dexter landed a record 2.6 million viewers which is the most-watched episode for any original content in the network’s history while Homeland bumped up to 2.36 million for its penultimate episode. The season finale airs for each program next week at which point these records are expected to be broken if not rivaled. Click the jump for the official statement courtesy of Showtime.
