The same day we get to see Tobey Maguire flaunt his everlasting cinematic innocence in several clips from The Great Gatsby comes word of his follow-up. This is a doozy as it has the Seabiscuit star acting alongside Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell in an IFC mini-series…for real. The well-casted event series will be six episodes in length and comes in from Ferrell’s Funny or Die.
Titled The Spoils of Babylon, Deadline says the story will follow the lives of an oil-enterprising family known as the Morehouses. Elements of the plot are said to focus on illegal arms deals and international espionage with the Shah of Iran–a role that belongs to Ferrell. Wiig will play the daughter of the family with Maguire as her adopted sibling. Casa de mi Padre director Matt Piedmont is directing from an Andrew Steele script.
After a million views and counting, Jim Carrey has caused quite the stir with his latest Funny or Die-produced video. The footage has the comic actor putting on his best Charlton Heston impression for an adaptation of Cold Dead Hand. While the piece has received more praise than not, it is worth mentioning that many people are upset over his jumping into this hot-button issue.
Zach Galifianakis is at it again with a special Academy Awards edition of Between Two Ferns. This time around, his guests include Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) and Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables) thus today’s honorable mention. Also included are Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained,) Amy Adams (The Master) and Naomi Watts (The Impossible,) Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook,) Sally Field (Lincoln,) and Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) all of whom received nominations this year. Watch as they undergo a gauntlet of awkward situational humor complements of The Hangover star. 
There is a new Funny or Die video making the rounds today as Will Ferrell took some time out to play a game show from Billy Eichner aka Billy on the Street. We have not heard of him before either, but the resulting segment was hilarious enough to crack a smile out from the usually straight-faced former Saturday Night Live cast member. The bit was called “Would Drew Barrymore Like That?” and had no association what so ever to the actress which made this even better. 
This video goes out to all those people who despise critics and could care less that they think Taken 2 is a piece of garbage. Funny or Die enlisted the help of Alfred Molina who is best known for playing a brilliant Doc Ock in 2004′s Spider-Man 2 in order to get a subtle point across that reviewers are just a bunch of a-holes. Enjoy this slight jab at formulaic-like moments often bottled inside cookie cutter rom-coms. 
Remember those pop-ups that used to plague the internet before browsers got wise about blocking such content? Well, here is a throwback to that which reminds us that maybe a few people still have to deal with this sort of thing. Henry Winkler partnered with the people at Funny or Die in a piece that imagines if those ’2 free iPod Nanos’ pop-ups were real. What if it was a millionaire trying to do something good with his money and he has a warehouse full of iPod Nanos that go unclaimed? This is probably what it would look like. 
For those of you who have never seen Patrick Stewart in comedy mode, you are in for a treat. The X-Men actor teamed up with Funny or Die this week to put together a bit on Olympic ticket scalping that is pretty great. Not only does he make us laugh, but there are some pretty noteworthy cameos by Olympian Ryan Lochte, Simon Pegg, and Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams who nearly steals the show because…well…she’s Arya Stark. While the latest Funny or Die Bane parody certainly does not reconcile what happened in The Dark Knight Rises, it does get points for creativity as it shows what has become of the film’s chief antagonist seven years following the events of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy capper. To get the point, he quit working out and is now a frequenter of drive-through restaurants.
John Goodman can still get the job done in the comedy arena and nothing shows that more than the following sketch he did for Funny or Die. The actor dressed up as Colonel Sanders to support gay marriage in what is seen as a knock at Chik-Fil-A’s religious foundations.
Funny or Die has a new talk show parody called It’s F*ckin’ Late, and the guests from this week’s edition come straight out of sitcom history. 
Funny or Die’s latest viral effort has Rob Riggle (21 Jump Street) paired with Kathryn Hahn (Parks & Recreation) in a well-received short titled Vacation Sex. It might be worth your time if rom-coms are sort of your thing, so take a look. 
There is a new Funny or Die video out with Fred Willard at the center. This time around he plays Lt. Captain John Ameruga who gives us an artful tour of the flags from our forefathers in honor of Flag Day which took play on Thursday. 
Selena Gomez stopped by the Funny or Die studios recently for a bit that can best be described as a Fifty Shades of Grey parody. The sketch is called Fifty Shades of Blue as it revolves around a painter who seems clueless to the special role he has in the actress’ life.
