By Jeff Rosz | May 16th, 2013 Gerard Butler is lining up another Olympus Has Fallen follow-up. The actor is reportedly in deep negotiations to join the thriller The Raven from director Ricardo de Montreuil. This is a short film-based feature that is being distributed by Universal. It is a sci-fi conspiracy flick set in the near future. Here is the short after the jump. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | April 5th, 2013 Tom Cruise and Gerard Butler were both on The Graham Norton Show this week, and much to our delight they both took part in a game of Wacky Wire. The two action stars were both on the program to promote their new films Oblivion and Olympus Has Fallen respectively. Quantum of Solace Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko was the third wheel as she co-stars opposite Cruise in the sci-fi adventure. This particular episode of Graham Norton will air April 11th on BBC America. By Jeff Rosz | March 26th, 2013 Gerard Butler is on top of the world once more. After suffering flop after flop, the actor has a legitimate hit with Olympus Has Fallen which surprised nearly everyone this past weekend with a $30 million three-day debut. This is the actor’s best open since 300 launched his career, and it may just put the man back into the driver’s seat of the action genre after playing with rom-coms and various dramas (with mixed results I might ad.) He took to The Tonight Show last night to talk about Olympus. The footage is after the jump. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | March 20th, 2013 Reviews are starting to trickle out, and Olympus Has Fallen may not be quite the disaster we once thought it would be. Having said that, the film’s star Gerard Butler needs this one to click more than ever or else his leading man days could be numbered. The actor is coming off a string of flops so this is perform or go home for him. He actually passed up working on the upcoming 300 sequel supposedly so he could work with Training Day director Antoine Fuqua. Let’s take a look at Butler’s latest talk show appearance via Jimmy Kimmel with all that in mind. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | March 8th, 2013 The first clip has made it online for Olympus Has Fallen starring Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, and Aaron Eckhart. This is Training Day director Antoine Fuque’s attempt at a White House hostage thriller (there’s another one coming in June) that is of the low-budget variety. Nonetheless, there looks to be plenty of action as today’s first look scene features the key moment where Korean terrorists attack the President’s house. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | January 22nd, 2013 The first official trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen finally made its way online. This is one of the two Secret Service/White House thrillers currently in development (the other being White House Down,) and both have been fast tracked suggesting neither are going to be too impressive. Nonetheless, this is Gerard Butler back in an action role which might help the actor recover from his recent flops which is why we are paying close attention.
Judging from the initial spot that follows, our initial inkling is correct as the CGI looks pretty bad. Having said that, this does come from the director of Training Day, so there is a bit of hope. Fuqua’s last two movies were Brooklyn’s Finest and Shooter which could have been worse implying that audiences can at least anticipate something capable. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | December 4th, 2012 Playing for Keeps star Gerard Butler continued his press tour at Ellen this morning. Not much of the appearance has showed up online just yet, but the actor did have a pretty decent talk show anecdote this time out. He told a story about how he was road tripping recently after shooting Olympus Has Fallen where he ran into a dentist that shares his name: Dr. Gerry Butler. It is good stuff, so check it out if you are a fan. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | December 4th, 2012 Gerard Butler has a new movie coming out–a rom-com called Playing for Keeps. The film has the actor starring alongside Jessica Biel and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and it pretty much has a monopoly on the genre for a while so we do not expect it to flop as bad as his surfer movie from October. Last night, Butler visited The Tonight Show where Jay Leno admitted to liking his newest effort which might not mean a whole lot; however, you should still check the appearance out if you are at all interested because the feature is a small topic of conversation. The actor also dished on a celebrity soccer game he participated in versus Manchester United. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | October 30th, 2012 Coming off of the worst nationwide opener of his career ($2.4 million,) Gerard Butler has added another film to follow-up Chasing Mavericks. Joining the actor’s post-surfer slate is a film called Dynamo based on a novel by Andy Dougan. The plot has Butler playing an all-star goalie by the name of Nikolai Trusevich who helped lead his Ukrainian soccer team versus a Nazi super team during World War II. This was a match set up to demonstrate Aryan superiority and is known throughout history as The Death Match as ten of the team’s players were sent to concentration camps less than two weeks after they won. By Jeff Rosz | October 26th, 2012 In a definite shocker of a move, Film District has picked up the Gerard Butler-led Olympus Has Fallen and subsequently dated the project for April 5, 2013. The Antoine Fuqua-directed feature is one of two such offerings in development at the moment centered around a secret service agent tasked with protecting the White House. While this is definitely the lower profile of the two, it does have a pretty decent supporting cast (Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart) which is why this will obviously make some noise.
This scheduling is not exactly cushy by any means as it will do battle with second weekends of G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Andrew Niccol’s The Host. The presumption here might be that either Film District wants to get their money and run, or they believe the latest G.I. Joe film will be a washout–something that many have been speculating ever since its year-long delay. Jurassic Park 3D has a same day release (undoubtedly something Universal did not plan on when dating the return to Steven Spielberg’s class,) and the Tom Cruise-led sci-fi flick Oblivion debuts the week after. By Jeff Rosz | October 24th, 2012 Gerard Butler may not be in any major motion pictures as of late, he is definitely worth giving a damn about, and that is why it is worth the quick mention that the actor is out plugging his new film, Chasing Mavericks. Last night, his press tour stopped at The Daily Show where he talked to Jon Stewart about his new true-story surfer film that opens on Friday. Like Butler did on Fallon the night before, he discussed the near-death experience he had while filming the movie. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | October 23rd, 2012 Gerard Butler’s latest movie Chasing Mavericks is set to release this weekend. The film stars the 300 actor as a mentor to a young surfing phenom, but it might be best known as that feature that almost killed the man. Back in 2011, A big wave took down the actor while shooting. The incident led to an ambulance ride, but for the most part he was okay enough to continue working on the Michael Apted and Curtis Hanson-directed feature. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | September 1st, 2012 Motor City is officially in production hell and possibly finished for good. Deadline is reporting that pre-production came to a screeching halt on Albert Hughes’ Gerard Butler-starrer this morning just one-month away from the start of shooting. The picture had a supporting cast inclusive of Mickey Rourke and the recently added Adrien Brody which makes this news somewhat of a shock. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | August 7th, 2012 Opening this December is a little sports dramedy starring Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel. The Gabriele Muccino-directed film is called Playing for Keeps and it centers around a divorced former soccer player who is on the path to redemption which is riddled with roadblocks that include gorgeous soccer moms who have the hots for him. The choice at hand? Being a good father or Catherine Zeta-Jones. Tough decision.
With the trailer now out, we can now thoroughly suggest this is more romantic comedy than anything else. It literally is exactly what you would expect, so hit the jump for the view if interested. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | August 7th, 2012 Mickey Rourke is about to partner up with Gerard Butler for the Albert Hughes-directed Motor City. The actor is reportedly in talks to join the feature which seems to be a more modern take on the Count of Monte Cristo. This is your classic revenge story where one guy puts the other behind bars and then steals his girl. It really sounds like a good fit for Rourke who currently has a handful of projects on his plate that deal with very similar circumstances. Continue Reading
