Those of you who loved David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook might want to see this. As the film’s director is currently reuniting the cast for a period piece in the Boston area called American Hustle, TWC has released an alternate ending to his last project–an Oscar-nominated dramedy starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.
The reason this is something that might have captured more headlines than the delay of a standard production was the possibility that filming could be thrown off schedule. Such a thing would have been a minor tragedy for Hollywood as the talent tied up in this Abscam-based project is enormous. Stars of the film include Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Robert DeNiro, Jennifer Lawrence, and Bradley Cooper. American Hustle releases in theaters on Christmas Day.
Not that competition matters with these types of award-bait releases, but it will have to do battle with three other features going wide on the date. Paramount’s Jack Ryan from director Kenneth Branagh looks to be the big one while Universal and Fox are releasing 47 Ronin and the much smaller-budgeted The Secret Life of Walter Mitty respectively. The latter option comes from Ben Stiller who directed the dramedy and starred opposite Kristen Wiig.

This is a story that not a whole lot of people probably paid attention to on Friday (for obvious reasons.) David O. Russell’s period follow-up to Silver Linings Playbook entitled American Hustle was unable to shoot on Friday due to the city of Boston being in total lockdown (Bradley Cooper used the time to visit Marathon Bombing victims in the hospital.) Well, that break is now over as things are expected to go back on track Monday as if none of it ever happened.
As expected, the MTV Movie Awards will give viewers an initial glimpse at The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Lionsgate actively pursues cheap promotional outlets like this for their content, thus why we were anticipating such a move. Filming wrapped up just before the new year, so we do not expect a finished look from director Francis Lawrence although any footage should suffice. What viewers are probably going to be looking for are first-time portrayals of new characters Johanna Mason (Jena Malone,) Beetee (Jeffrey Wright,) and Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman) although it is entirely possibly none of these will be included in the film’s debut trailer. 
The best way to market a film is to have unique and viral marketing materials, and by golly that is exactly what Lionsgate is laying down for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire which is now eight months out from release. There is a new set of character posters for the movie made up like they were classic still portraits as opposed to your standard Adobe Photoshop spit shine. Things have been a bit quiet as of late in regards to Lionsgate’s sequel to The Hunger Games, but that changed today as two new posters have just been released. They promote the victory tour taken following Katniss’ shared victory with Peeta last time out. There literally is nothing more to say on the topic other than a short teaser will possibly be on board the MTV Movie Awards in April. Just pure speculation though considering that is the type of venue the studio would choose to show off their wares. Cheap and affordable marketing. 
More presenters have just been announced for the 85th Annual Academy Awards. Joining an already bloated roster will be Oscar favorites Ben Affleck, Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence. Affleck is up for Best Picture with the other two going head to head for Best Actress. The trio join the likes of The Avengers, Mark Wahlberg & Ted, and several previously announced former winners. The ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 24 with event host Seth MacFarlane. 
Zach Galifianakis is at it again with a special Academy Awards edition of Between Two Ferns. This time around, his guests include Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) and Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables) thus today’s honorable mention. Also included are Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained,) Amy Adams (The Master) and Naomi Watts (The Impossible,) Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook,) Sally Field (Lincoln,) and Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) all of whom received nominations this year. Watch as they undergo a gauntlet of awkward situational humor complements of The Hangover star. 
Jennifer Lawrence is back on the talk show circuit following her stint hosting Saturday Night Live. The actress is still out promoting Silver Linings Playbook, a film which gave the actress a Golden Globe and a SAG Award. Later this month, she will try for the triple crown at the Academy Awards, but before all that The Hunger Games star decided to drop by Conan while her Silver Linings co-star Bradley Cooper visited Jimmy Kimmel. 
Last night’s Saturday Night Live came off as an average outing despite Golden Globe-winner Jennifer Lawrence taking the reins of the long-running sketch program. The monologue came off as a bit awkward, and half the bits felt like they were written in 15 minutes. Having said that, this was still the first episode back in a while and those tend to bring the goods in one way or another. Some of the more memorable moments came in the form of a pre-taped Hobbit bit mocking the film’s three-part nature as well as a Hunger Games press conference in which Peeta gets no love. Jennifer Lawrence has the honors of hosting the first new Saturday Night Live episode of 2013, and the promos have just hit the web. Helping her out is long-time cast member Jason Sudeikis who is expected to making his exit from the program by the end of this current season. He was rumored to only have been attached to go through the end of the Presidential Election to finish up his run as Mitt Romney, but nothing ever came from that end suggesting his final episode might be in May.
