Alongside the renewal of The Following this afternoon came word of three comedy pickups for the 2013-14 season. More episodes have been ordered for New Girl, The Mindy Project, and Raising Hope. None of these shows have been particularly impressive, but given Fox’s history with live-action comedy (even when accounting for the massive dip in New Girl’s popularity) this is a comparative bonanza for the network known for its illustrated offerings in the genre. Ryan Kwanten is best known for his role in HBO’s summer vampire drama, True Blood, but aside from the occasional low-budget movie, he has not been seen elsewhere. In fact, the last non-True Blood related television appearance by the actor was a 2008 episode of Law & Order: SVU. That is about to change as Kwanten has been nabbed up for the Valentine’s Day episode of Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl in which he will play the one-night stand that Deschanel’s character will be looking for during the episode. It has been a while since we had a Zooey Deschanel sighting, so it might be worth mentioning her latest talk show appearance for her Fox comedy New Girl. Since we last saw the actress, her show has plummeted from its rookie hit status to ‘meh, it is not hurting anyone,’ but that argument can be said about a lot of show’s on her network right now so let’s cut her a break and just see what she had to say on Conan. We still like her, right? 
Olivia Munn has an upcoming guest stint on the Fox comedy New Girl, thus providing The Tonight Show with a reason to bring the actress back onto the program. We are not complaining because she usually brings the goods whether she talks about her fear of motorcycling during the day or her tiger mom. The former received a mention, but the latter did not as the B conversation centered on Munn’s Vanity Fair photo shoot as well as the audition process she went through for The Newsroom. 
Zooey Deschanel is doing a little more press for the return of New Girl, so she could be seen on Ellen this morning. Naturally, there was some more to the conversation beyond the hit sitcom as the actress mostly talked about the Primetime Emmy’s over the weekend during which she was caught being unreasonably excited for Louis C.K.’s Emmy win. She also was grabbed in another weird moment on the red carpet involving photographers and Nicole Kidman. 
Zooey Deschanel has a lot of street cred right now. Last year, her comedy New Girl premiered on Fox–a network not known for its live-action sitcoms–and it quickly became one of the broadcaster’s top rated shows. On top of that, people genuinely seem to like her certain brand of weirdness, so it is more than worth a quick look at her latest appearance on The Tonight Show. The interview included a lot of discussion about rejection and the revelation that Paul McCartney watches DVD extras. Who knew? Also on topic was Zooey Deschanel’s recent guest spot on The Simpsons and Zooey Deschanel’s Emmy nomination. 
Check out the latest iPhone 4S commercials. They use New Girl star Zooey Deschanel and Samuel L. Jackson to promote the smartphone, but really they are promoting the utilization of Siri. The feature has been a bit controversial as many considered it to be a mere novelty act with no real added benefit beyond screwing around when the device is first purchased. Apple is hedging its bets though in that Siri might provide their product with a unique advantage over rival smartphones, so it is in their best interest to get people using it even if that means teaching the public how it is done.
