Alongside the renewal of The Followingthis afternoon came word of three comedy pickups for the 2013-14 season. More episodes have been ordered for New Girl, The Mindy Project, and Raising Hope. None of these shows have been particularly impressive, but given Fox’s history with live-action comedy (even when accounting for the massive dip in New Girl’s popularity) this is a comparative bonanza for the network known for its illustrated offerings in the genre. It has been a while since we had a Zooey Deschanel sighting, so it might be worth mentioning her latest talk show appearance for her Fox comedy New Girl. Since we last saw the actress, her show has plummeted from its rookie hit status to ‘meh, it is not hurting anyone,’ but that argument can be said about a lot of show’s on her network right now so let’s cut her a break and just see what she had to say on Conan. We still like her, right? Continue Reading
Olivia Munn has an upcoming guest stint on the Fox comedy New Girl, thus providing The Tonight Show with a reason to bring the actress back onto the program. We are not complaining because she usually brings the goods whether she talks about her fear of motorcycling during the day or her tiger mom. The former received a mention, but the latter did not as the B conversation centered on Munn’s Vanity Fair photo shoot as well as the audition process she went through for The Newsroom. Zooey Deschanel just stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night where she talked about her Sophomore comedy New Girl. This is the second appearance on the program inside of a year as the previous trip to Rockefeller Center had the actress playing Catchphrase as she prepared to host Saturday Night Live in the spring. This time around, there was no game, only a set of dramatic read-and-turns. Continue Reading
Star of New Girl Zooey Deschanel is not quite finished doing press for the new season of her sophomore comedy. The actress took to Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to promote the series which actually premiered pretty soft last week. While that was easily one of the big ratings surprises out of the month, much of that could be blamed at a one-hour premiere sandwiching a new Fox series. Due to that rare circumstance, many industry watchers predict a rebound; however, the extra round of promotion to one of late night television’s youngest audiences should help.
Topics of conversation for Deschanel’s recent appearance includes her performance in the cold open for the Primetime Emmy’s and a Cosmo quiz she took. She also dished on what goes into preparing a dress for the big event and revealed there are fail safes built in to avoid duplicate wardrobes on the big day. Continue Reading
Zooey Deschanel is doing a little more press for the return of New Girl, so she could be seen on Ellen this morning. Naturally, there was some more to the conversation beyond the hit sitcom as the actress mostly talked about the Primetime Emmy’s over the weekend during which she was caught being unreasonably excited for Louis C.K.’s Emmy win. She also was grabbed in another weird moment on the red carpet involving photographers and Nicole Kidman. Continue Reading
Zooey Deschanel has a lot of street cred right now. Last year, her comedy New Girl premiered on Fox–a network not known for its live-action sitcoms–and it quickly became one of the broadcaster’s top rated shows. On top of that, people genuinely seem to like her certain brand of weirdness, so it is more than worth a quick look at her latest appearance on The Tonight Show. The interview included a lot of discussion about rejection and the revelation that Paul McCartney watches DVD extras. Who knew? Also on topic was Zooey Deschanel’s recent guest spot on The Simpsons and Zooey Deschanel’s Emmy nomination. Continue Reading
Check out the latest iPhone 4S commercials. They use New Girl star Zooey Deschanel and Samuel L. Jackson to promote the smartphone, but really they are promoting the utilization of Siri. The feature has been a bit controversial as many considered it to be a mere novelty act with no real added benefit beyond screwing around when the device is first purchased. Apple is hedging its bets though in that Siri might provide their product with a unique advantage over rival smartphones, so it is in their best interest to get people using it even if that means teaching the public how it is done.
Zooey Deschanel was on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to promote New Girl. The show just wrapped its first season, and while this interview discusses the absence of a second season renewal, the show is pretty much a lock for another year as its ratings tower above other live-action comedies on the network. Some networks tend to use pickups strategically to generate press for weaker pickups by pairing them in the same news release. This ultimately results in a bundled article on news blogs that will simultaneously cover renewals for multiple shows. The logic behind it is simple: Get viewers thinking the series’ are in the same class.
Zooey Deschanel was on Jimmy Fallon last night to promote her upcoming gig of hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend. She also talked about her recent viral video and played a game of catchphrase with the talk show host.
On an otherwise dull post-Christmas week, the internet has acquired this little gem featuring 500 Days of Summer co-stars Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The duo, who have been friends since way before their 2009 surprise hit, sang a song together called What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve? Enjoy.
Ryan Kwanten is best known for his role in HBO’s summer vampire drama, True Blood, but aside from the occasional low-budget movie, he has not been seen elsewhere. In fact, the last non-True Blood related television appearance by the actor was a 2008 episode of Law & Order: SVU. That is about to change as Kwanten has been nabbed up for the Valentine’s Day episode of Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl in which he will play the one-night stand that Deschanel’s character will be looking for during the episode.
Since Valentine’s Day is a Tuesday this year one could imagine that is when you can catch Jason Stackhouse in action.
Zooey Deschanel was on Conan last night to promote New Girl. She talks about memories, inventions, personal style, and more. Here is the interview. Continue Reading
In what is expected to be the start of a massive rebuilding of Fox’s lineup before they turn into ‘another NBC,’ Fox has cancelled five shows tonight and has announced pickups of four. Continue Reading
