This one puts the actress in front of the camera for what is probably Steven Soderbergh’s final big screen effort which uses prescription drugs at a plot device. Overall, the pic is a thriller and it also stars Channing Tatum with Jude Law for those unfamiliar with the lead who happens to be the younger sister of House of Cards star Kate Mara. Steven Soderbergh fans need not worry about the fate of Bitter Pill–the Haywire director’s feature about a prescription pill using woman (Rooney Mara) who is mysteriously driven to murder her recently out of prison husband (Channing Tatum). While this seemed like a certainty prior to release given that box office trackers anticipated heavy volume for the movie based on a set of internationally best selling novels, it’s been speculated that the movie’s dark themes were a tad too much for a holiday box office which is normally driven by family trips to the theater.
