By Jeff Rosz | October 30th, 2012 A few people can make the argument that The X Factor is finally hitting its stride in the US. The Simon Cowell-produced program is doing fairly well in the ratings despite the saturated state of the talent competition genre, and the show appears to be a mere stepping stone away from Idol-sized success. Of course, that will have to wait until next year to work itself out as the unscripted show maintains ratings roughly 30% lower than its NBC rival The Voice.
That all said, a lot of eyes will be on how The X Factor performs when the show enters live episodes this coming Wednesday which lends itself to the subject of this posting: another appearance by Simon Cowell and Britney Spears on late night programming. The last we saw the duo, it was before the second season even launched via Jimmy Kimmel Live. This time around they took to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno where it looked to be slightly more engaging. Continue Reading
By Jeff Rosz | September 18th, 2012 The X Factor is off to a lackadaisical start in the ratings and even lost in the one-hour head-to-head it had with The Voice last week, but Simon Cowell is not about to throw in the towel just yet. He was on Conan last night with fellow judge Demi Lovato where they talked about their new chemistry, a comparison between their show and the competition, and more. The surprising thing about this interview is that Simon says he likes the show a whole lot better than last year which might sound odd considering last year featured bigger ratings and his long-time buddy Paula Abdul. By Jeff Rosz | September 13th, 2012 The X Factor kicked off its second season last night, so perhaps it was not too big of a shock to see the talent series’ two biggest stars on Kimmel. Both Simon Cowell and Britney Spears showed up on the program last night where they primarily talked about the show which is completely fine. The series is way better this year and you almost can tell just by looking at the smug look on Cowell’s face as he certainly will not have to fire any of the current panelists.
That said, we still do not know who exactly will be replacing the very British judge that they canned from the show’s first season and Jimmy Kimmel got to the bottom of it. He asked Simon if he was serious about actually hiring Khloe Kardashian to which he confirmed. Cowell also reminded Kimmel the intent to hire two judges for the program to mitigate any damage from a poor choice. Whoever lands the gig will do so just prior to the beginning of live shows. By Jeff Rosz | February 22nd, 2012 We have some new information to report on the upcoming season of The X Factor, and it comes straight from the show’s producer, Mr. Simon Cowell. During a teleconference on Wednesday, the music producer was short on details, but he did reveal that he wants two female judges and two hosts–both of which are somewhat surprising.
As far as the judges are concerned, many have speculated that The X Factor would contract to three after the firings of both Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul after last season. Janet Jackson, Fergie, and Britney Spears are supposedly the front runners for those vacated spots.
In terms of a host, Simon still wants two. Again, many speculated that one would be considered enough. Having two in the position was the original plan for last season as Nicole Scherzinger was bumped up from hosting to judging after Cheryl Cole was relieved of her duties early on into filming.
By Jeff Rosz | January 25th, 2012 Yes, you read the headline right. DJ’s as in, “DJ’s are so much cooler than they used to be.” It is the recent rise in popularity of disc jockeys that is feeding a new collaboration from Simon Cowell and Will Smith’s production company. The goal is to become an internationally distributed show through their partnership with Sony Television with launches in both the US and the UK.
Fresh off her cancelled TNT medical drama, Jada Pinkett-Smith will be taking the reigns for the Smith clan on this particular project. The actress has taken on a co-creator role in the development of the series.
Sony promises to make public broadcasting plans for this series very soon, so stay tuned for more.
By Jeff Rosz | August 24th, 2011 British pop singer Cheryl Cole was one of the original four judges on Fox’s The X Factor until she was let go abruptly after only a short while into filming the auditions. Since that happened, there has been much speculation as to what lead to Cole’s firing, and according to a recent interview Simon Cowell had with The Hollywood Reporter, it was because she could not cut it in America. In an interview with Deadline, Simon Cowell has gone on the record saying he anticipates a reunion with Paula Abdul on his new show The X Factor.
