‘The Help’ Passes $100 Million Box Office Easily

This was kind of a no brainer. The Help has passed $100 million thanks to back-to-back number one weekends and a strong number two opening behind Apes. If you said that to Hollywood a few weeks ago they would have thought you are embellishing to prove a point. Weekend Box Office Results for August 19-21: ‘Help’ Leaps ‘Apes’ as New Releases Bomb

Here are the top ten movies at the box office for the weekend of August 19-21. Rise of the Planet of the Apes was passed by The Help this weekend which was clearly going to happen as the movie owned the charts all through the week. The new entrants were Spy Kids 4, Fright Night, Conan the Barbarian, and One Day. Both Spy Kids 4 and One Day performed as expected while Fright Night and Conan are considered disappointments. Here are the top ten movies at the box office for the weekend of August 12-14. Rise of the Planet of the Apes hung onto the top spot this weekend with a 50% dip, and The Help surprised some by nearly beating Apes for number one. 30 Minutes or Less was a disappointment and Glee 3D Concert Movie did not even crack the top ten, coming just short of $6 million. Critics Love ‘The Help’ as Viola Davis Impresses

The reviews are now out for The Help which is a period, civil rights era drama starring Emma Stone. There was a lot of early fandom for this film, so expectations were running high and critics say that the film delivers.

The Good: Critics believe that the film exhibits some of the best acting in any film all summer thanks to a stellar performance from Viola Davis. A lot of critics believe the movie adaptation holds true to the novel it is based off of and they really could not ask for anything more.

The Bad: The minor details that made the book the hit it was were often overlooked, and the film’s best actress, Viola Davis, was said to have had too small a role considering her rock star performance.

Rotten Tomatoes: 73% Fresh

Metacritic: 63/100
