Reports are surfacing this afternoon that actor Vince Vaughn has just been tapped to star in a retread of the 1970′s television series The Rockford Files. This is certainly a surprise to some as many suspected NBC would continue efforts to adapt the show for a network reboot, but apparently it was not to be as this new project from Universal seems to be moving along rather quickly. Ocean’s Thirteen writers David Levien and Brian Koppelman are the duo behind the script; however, a director is yet to be named.
For those unfamiliar with The Rockford Files, the show ran from 1974-1980 on NBC and starred James Garner as a private eye who spent time in San Quentin Prison before being pardoned. This will not be the first time the series has been brought back from the dead though as CBS aired a handful of made-for-television movies in the 1990′s which served to reunite the show’s original cast.
While things can change in a hurry, this might as well be added to Vaughn’s already busy schedule. The actor has a few upcoming films already on the calendar for the next few years including two reunions via Neighborhood Watch and Interns. The former of which will set the actor alongside Ben Stiller (Dodgeball) and the latter reunites him with fellow wedding crasher Owen Wilson.
