Hot off receiving season-best ratings on April 28 thanks in part to its Game of Thrones lead-in, HBO has decided to renew Veep for a third season. This is not exactly a surprise given viewership is better than the premium network’s other comedies at the moment, but it is seen as a vote of confidence going forward given that the channel’s first two runs of a series are automatic and anything afterwards has to ‘earn its place.’

Julia Louis-Dreyfus was back on the talk show circuit last night. The Seinfeld alumna took to The Tonight Show to promote her returning HBO comedy Veep. The show did pretty well last year in the ratings relatively speaking although a lot of that was attributed to its pairing with Game of Thrones, the network’s second highest-rated program. Nonetheless, Veep also has a bit of critical success with its star winning a Primetime Emmy last fall. Continue Reading
The last trailer was more of a tease, but this shows a whole lot of new footage for the new season so with that we take a look at the latest full-length spot for Veep. This is a not a great pairing by any means, but the critically-acclaimed comedy led by Julia Louis-Dreyfus is certainly still respected despite the significant viewer differential. That said, do not go into the year expecting the dreaded cancellation to creep up as it pretty much gives HBO what it wants–Emmys and exclusive dibs on some pretty recognizable small screen talent.
